What is article spinning? Years ago, software was developed that took an article and systematically substituted synonyms for like words in the article. Sometimes the software was a little more sophisticated and used a thesaurus to substitute words. In theory, that was a great idea.

However, there were and are some major problems with the output. Have you ever read one of those spun articles? They do not always make sense. You may get the gist of the article, but after reading a few lines, it becomes obvious to a native speaker that either the author is a foreigner or the author is on hallucinogenic drugs.

Nevertheless, article marketers, not article writers, would and still do submit those articles for publication. It was and is a way to increase the output of articles effortlessly.

Unfortunately, since most of the output is garbage that practice has given the art of rewriting articles a bad name. Along with that, it has given article marketers and article writers a bad name.

Rewriting articles is very time consuming. Yet, it is a legitimate and effective way to increase productivity. There is no substitute for manually rewriting an article. Automated software does not give you control of the output and the input of the content.

Yet, when done correctly your rewritten article will attract greater search engine exposure. It will decrease the bounce rate to your website or sales page. You can create press releases, e-books, PDF files and much more from your rewritten articles.

There is nothing wrong with submitting the same article with the same words to multiple directories and ezines. But, how boring! Imagine yourself as a reader going from one site to another and finding the same exact wording of an article when you were expecting something fresh or at least different.

Rewriting articles solves that problem. The key is to rewrite your article so that any rewritten version is a minimum of 70% different from the original. After writing the original version, immediately write two more versions using the original as a template. Start with the first paragraph and work through the article. You will now have three versions of the original article. You can do this easily in a matter of an hour or less.

If you have rewritten every paragraph, assuming each of the three articles has five paragraphs, and if you took the time you could, theoretically and mathematically, manually generate 243 new articles from those three versions. That is 3 to the 5th power equals 243 (3 versions, 5 paragraphs). That would be a monumental task!

This is where spinning meets rewriting. A good rewriting tool (the top article spinner) will take your original three versions and give you up to 243 articles. There is still a problem. Not all of those 243 articles will be 70% unique or better.

Sorting out those articles that are not 70% unique is a simple task. Some of those 243 can have uniqueness as high as 80%. There are free article comparison tools on the web. With those tools, you can set the filters to check for various levels of consecutive words, sentences, or paragraphs and determine the article’s uniqueness.

I would leave that site quicker than the flicker of wind blown flame. Why? Because the author of the article or site is lazy and not really interested in providing me with useful and unique information.

Here are a few tips that you should consider when writing an article for publication to an article directory.

• After writing the article consider rewriting several different versions of the article.
• While it is fresh in your memory, it is easy to reword.
• Start with the first paragraph. Use synonyms and rearrange the rewritten sentences.
• It is best to go through the entire article. Rewording each paragraph.
• Create at least two versions for each paragraph.
• Limiting your rewrite to words, phrases, or sentences undermines the uniqueness you are trying to create.
• Rewriting your articles and submitting unique articles to different directories increases your search engine exposure.
• Do not use rewriting software that arbitrarily or randomly uses synonyms to automatically generate articles. It is a waste of your money and time.
• If you do decide to use article rewriting software, make sure that you have complete control of the input and the output.
• With two or more versions for each paragraph and a good rewriting software you can easily generate 10 to 20 unique and quality articles.
• Rewriting articles not only improves search engine optimization (SEO), it reduces the bounce rate to your site. Thus, more sales!

Article rewriting can be time consuming without some automation. Nevertheless, it is well worth the effort. How would you like to go from one site to another and find the exact same article? I think not.

I personally know of only one piece of software that allows you complete and total control of the content of your rewritten articles.

To spin or not to spin, that is the question. I am relatively new to internet marketing. I chose article marketing as my method of marketing because I like to write. That sounds logical enough.

In the course of writing my articles, I soon discovered two things. One, I am too particular about my writing. I edit and re-edit and re-edit. I know that there are article marketers that whip out ten, twenty, or more articles everyday.  To this day, I am not sure how they do it. I can see slaving over maybe ten articles per day.  But, more than that everyday?

I mean quality content articles, articles that provide information, that say something. Now I am not knocking those that can pump out twenty or more articles of good content. But, just how many of those authors are out there.

I mean really writing solid articles with usable information. Take this article, so far I haven’t said much. I have spouted about my disbelief. Have I truly relayed to you any useful information? No, I didn’t think so. I have almost written 200 words and have yet to give you, the reader, useful information. Maybe, this how and what those authors write to get such volume.

The second thing I discovered is that although content is king, volume is his kingdom. Content without volume is like a king without subjects. Without a kingdom, there are no revenues and the king goes broke.  The kingdom (volume) provides subjects (traffic, readers) which in turn provide revenue.

I concluded that there are at least four ways to increase your writing;

1. Write more.
2. Hire writers to write for you.
3. Buy Private Label Right (PLR) articles and rewrite them or attempt to publish them as is.
4. Spin your original articles.

I have already dismissed the first one for reasons I stated earlier. I am slow. The second way is too costly for me now and I fear that I would be overly critical and end up rewriting them any way. The third method I reject for the same reasons as the second. I would end up rewriting the article.

Besides, what I have seen of PLRs, the best they can do is give you ideas for articles. We are left with spinning your article. That authors spin their articles always had me wondering. Why not just write another article? Surfing the forums you hear horror stories about automatically spun articles that put out un-intelligible garbage.

Why take the time and money to input an article into a spinner only to have it come out reading like alphabet soup? And, besides all that, you are cautioned to make sure that the spun article does not exceed 30% duplicate content. Doesn’t that sound like a complete re-write? I have never been an advocate of spinning articles. It seemed to me that I would just be rehashing the same stuff over and over again.

Many article directories will accept previously published articles. Some do not. Submitting previously published articles is like a writing a syndicated column for newspapers. The same article appears in many different newspapers. Why not do the same with an article marketers article?

There is a difference. One day I was re-reading one of my articles that I came across while surfing the internet. I clicked on the link at the bottom just to make sure the link was working properly. The link worked all right, but it went to one of my blogs. Can you guess what the first post on that page was?

Yep, I had just read the same article. I found that to be annoying and, well, poor taste. I think a reader would quickly bounce off the page and go elsewhere. So, I decided to re-write the article, but I remembered that the same article was appearing in many other directories. I would have to write many different versions of that same article to give the reader some uniqueness and still convey the original message.

It was then that I became a convert to article spinning. A word of caution, most article spinners are not worth the price, free or otherwise. Be very careful, only select a spinner that allows you full control of the output and then check each spun article for uniqueness.
